Walkies, swedes and good news

I thought it was time for a little Layla update as we are now two and a months into her rehab for the lesion on her suspensory ligament. I am pleased to say that she is behaving really well and has gained quite the fan club! She is now being hand walked for 50 mins which means I can sometimes take her out with Squirt. She is a bit miffed that he is now the big horse in charge and she's having to be led but its nice to get her out properly.

Box rest is a boring business when everyone else is outside enjoying the sun and grass all day so I have been making sure she is kept occupied with different things to do and eat. Layla's favourite by far is a swede! So much so that my mum is now buying them by the net from a local grocer as we are working through them quickly. I hang them in a Equilibrium Munch Net so she has to gnaw away to break bits and then get them out the net. She has also been having her hay divided between a net and a big tub on the floor, I chose to do this as didn't want her always eating with her head up and this way she can eat in a grazing position so is stretching her back.

Ali Mead from the George Equine Clinic came out a couple of weeks ago and did a rescan on her leg. The lesion is healing, still a way to go but definitely all moving in the right direction. She was pleased with how she was looking and hasn't put on too much weight, just abit of a hay belly. Sooooooooo Layla has been allowed.........

FREEDOM!!!

It might only be in a small fenced area for an hour or two whilst I am about to keep an eye but at least she is out in the fresh air being a horse. So for now that is our update for now, hopefully we will have another happy one soon.
